Bob Williams formed Silverstone Buggy Club (SBC) around 20 years ago. The original racing venue was a back garden in Silverstone village. Bob decided to form the club to give his son a place to race.
As the club expanded and more and more people got into Model Car Racing the club outgrew the back garden in Silverstone Village and was forced to move to a new larger venue. The sports hall at Sponne School in Towcester became the new home for Silverstone Buggy Club for the next few years.
Several years later the club started up outdoor racing once again. The new outdoor venue was Towcester Football Club. Moving to this venue gave the club a chance to grow even larger and attract many new racers from all over the country.
Some new faces started to appear onto the scene. A certain Ray Paice was one of the new faces who started to have an input into the day to day running of the club.
About 1995 a big change within SBC as Bob Williams announced that he could no longer carry on in his position as Chairman of the club. Bob who had been with the club from the very beginning would be sadly missed but it was thanks to all his hard work and commitment that SRCMCC has become such a success.
In order to keep the club alive it was necessary to find a replacement chairman. Ray Paice took over the position as chairman, and the day to day running of the club.
Ray Paice is still involved with SRCMCC club but now concentrates mainly on running many popular larger Sunday meetings during the summer and winter months.
Due to increasing vandalism at the Rugby Club site SBC were forced to move to a new venue at Potterspury Lodge School on the A5 just outside Towcester. The school was the home of SRCMCC indoor and outdoor tracks for many years.
In 1997 another change within SBC as Ray Paice announced that he could no longer carry on in his position as Chairman of the club.
Greg Williams (no relation to Bob) became the new chairman who about five years ago (1997) to look after the day to day running of the club.
1999/2000 Silverstone Buggy Club changed its name to Silverstone Radio Controlled Model Car Club (SRCMCC) to reflect the true nature of all the classes that race in the club.
A recent venture for the Club was hiring a racing venue in partnership with the outdoor Aylesbury Club at Stowe Ridings Equestrian Centre next to Silverstone circuit the home of the British Grand Prix.
At the end of April 2002 SRCMCC were unfortunate victims of new government legislation which meant we lost the use of the sports hall and gymnasium at Potterspury Lodge School. Aylesbury kindly took on the regional races that had to be cancelled for 2002 due to closure of our grass track.
After some weeks of searching we found a new home at Silverstone Recreation Sports and Social Club. In the first instance this will be the Friday indoor venue.
